Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM) is the world’s leading on-premises calling platform, trusted by over 30 million users worldwide. Enterprises across financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, energy, government, and defense count on UCM for its proven reliability, robust security, and stability. Our commitment to UCM innovation remains unwavering, with continuous enhancements that deliver greater flexibility, stronger security, and an even better user experience. As part of this commitment, I’m excited to announce our intent to support the Nutanix AHV hypervisor on the Cisco UCM portfolio of solutions. Seamlessly integrated with the Nutanix Cloud Platform, AHV is a modern hypervisor and features full-stack management from a single, intuitive UI.
Virtualization Powers Flexibility and Scale
Hypervisors are a critical foundation for the Cisco UCM portfolio. They provide the virtualization layer that makes UCM deployments more flexible, scalable, and cost-effective, enabling:
- Better utilization of CPU, memory, and storage.
- Easier consolidation of multiple workloads on fewer servers.
- Lower hardware costs and a reduced data center footprint.
Historically, UCM supported only VMware ESXi as its hypervisor. But our customers have requested more choice and flexibility to reduce licensing costs, align with their IT strategies, and streamline operations across environments. For this reason, we’re partnering with Nutanix to deliver planned support for the Nutanix AHV hypervisor across the Cisco UCM portfolio.
What This Means for Cisco UCM Customers

Cisco UCM is the backbone of enterprise collaboration, enabling secure voice and video calling, messaging, mobility, and presence across any device and location. With planned support for Nutanix AHV, Cisco UCM customers will gain a validated, enterprise-grade option for deploying these capabilities with consistent performance and high availability.
Cisco UCM is built with robust authentication, encryption, and compliance protocols, supporting industries with stringent security requirements including healthcare, finance, retail, and government. Running Cisco UCM on Nutanix’s resilient platform ensures these protections extend across all deployment models.
We anticipate general availability of these validations to begin in early 2026, and we’re working closely with Nutanix to ensure a seamless experience for our joint customers. This effort builds on our multi-year engineering and go-to-market collaboration, which already includes:
- Best-of-breed infrastructure combining Cisco UCS servers and networking with Nutanix Cloud Platform
- Unified management through Cisco Intersight and Nutanix Prism
- Proactive resiliency and security to protect workloads from downtime and threats
Looking Ahead
Cisco UCM has been the trusted standard for on-premises calling for decades, and we’re committed to making ongoing investments in the platform. With expanded hypervisor support, enhanced security, and a roadmap that extends well into the future, we’re ensuring that UCM continues to deliver the reliability, flexibility, and innovation our customers expect. Planned support of Nutanix AHV is another step in that journey, providing a future-ready foundation for businesses everywhere.
